It is out of the pizza box......

.....and the borders are on and ready to quilt.

that's 2 PHD's pieced since January 1st
...the hard part is done.
I'm really serious about emptying a few of my pizza boxes!!
I have way too many UFO's...
...my goal is to finish 12 UFO's by the end of the year...
...the next pizza box revealed this PHD....

...this was a class project from 2006 or 2007.
To my surprise the pizza box did not have the pattern in it...
I'm still looking for it....but I can finish this beauty without the pattern.
I remember the pattern had a log cabin border
...that is not going to happen.....
not sure what I am going to do with the borders...
maybe a narrow green inner border finishing at 1 inch...
...that is the width of the logs....
and a purple outer border 6 or 8 inches wide.

I'm still working on these too...
I started February 5 and making pretty good progress...(o:

I think this is what I am going to use....

Kona snow background
green dot for sashing
sashing corner stones....to be determined???
navy print for inner border
floral outer border.....

I'm off to do a bit of stitching...(o:

A number of years ago, I bought a quilt kit from a LQS

not long after I bought it, I cut the fabrics for the blocks

but not the borders. When I was cutting the blocks I found

2 of the fabrics were short. Mr. Quiltnqueen and I went back to the shop

and Mary, the owner, gave me the shortage....
apologizing over and over again.

I stitched up all the blocks and cut the strips

for the sashing, the corners stones and the inner border....

but not the outer border strips.

I put the blocks in a pizza box with all the extra fabric
including the outer border fabric...and there it stayed for a few years.

About 3 weeks ago I dug the UFO out of hiding and started putting the blocks together

on the weekend I started putting on the inner border......

great I will get this top finished this weekend!!!

No so...I get the outer border fabric out and go to cut it...I should have 2.25 yards...

I have only 1.25 yards...

The fabric is by 3 Sisters...Mistletoe Manor from a while ago

and obviously not readily available any more.

The 1.25 yards is not even long enough to border the short ends of the quilt

without piecing it.

I'm miffed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't mind piecing inner borders but I do not like to piece the outer borders.

It's back in the pizza box and will probably remain a UFO forever...)o:

I'm feeling a little vintage today....

....as old as these fine kitchen pieces from the past
and some days I feel even older.

A triple sifter, the same as Mme Samm's...only hers has yellow handles.
Mme Samm blogged about hers HERE.

The tea pot was my MIL's and it sure does make a good pot of tea!!

...and don't you just luv the aqua egg beater.

I've been told I am vitamin D deficient...

...does that account for the January blues I'm having?

The Dr wants me to take a vitamin D supplement, 2000 units
......which I am taking now.

also
I'm feeling a few aches and pains lately.

I have pains in the ball of my foot.
...it is slightly swollen
with sharp burning pains radiating into the middle toes
....but not all the time.

The x-ray shows no broken bones, now the Dr wants me to see
an Orthopedic Dr, ice it 3 times a day, take Ibuprofen,
wear closed shoes all the time...UGH!!!
....and I'm a bare foot girl who luvs her flip flops.
I'm thinking it might be a pinched or inflamed nerve
and I hope it goes away soon so I don't have to go to the Orthopedic Dr.
Have any of you every had similar foot pains?

Yes, you guessed it.....I'm not exercising much and

I've added just a few pounds and that doesn't make me happy!!

OK...that is enough of my whining!!

Blogger is kinder today and .....a few finishes....

...it appears my blogging issues have disappeared since converting to
Google Chrome. I'm hoping it stays friendly.

A few Christmas finishes that I have not blogged about.
Some pillowcases for me.

They match my 'One Block Wonder' quilt that I made about 4 years ago.

...some pillowcases I finished after Christmas and
gifted to friends that luv to bowl.....
and a pillowcase for a talented musician.

Catherine is an Australian designer.
Go for a visit to her blog
or her store at Willow Valley Store.
She has lots of cuteness you can't live without.

I have the quilt framed under glass...
I used only 1 strand of Aurifil #12 embroidery floss color #2260.
It is a nice burgundy red.
I luv how it turned out but may remove the glass.

My next embroidery project is
also a Catherine Baynes pattern.
It is very detailed.
It is the clothes peg bag...luv, luv, luv it!!!!

It is traced and ready to start stitching but
....I must finish the Cinnamon and Cocoa table runner first...
...a pattern designed by Anne Sutton back around 2009.
and has been a UFO for awhile.
It is still borderless but I'm going to work on it tomorrow.

Blogger aches and pains....

I am still having issues with Blogger and am wondering if anyone else is having problems

.....and this has been going on for about 3 weeks.

I can leave comments on some blogs

but I have come across a number of blogs that I have been following for some time

and I cannot leave comments on them....I get a blank screen.

I also get a blank screen when I try to view the comments on my own blog.

If anyone has any answers and can help please let me know.

Last night was FNSI and I was stitching.

I was working on a table runner....

It is a older Bunny Hill Designs pattern called Cinnamon & Cocoa.

Yes it is a UFO and thought it would be a great Easter table runner.

I have the borders to do yet....

...a narrow inner red border and a white outer border.

I may get them on later today after I do some laundry and cleaning!!!

I'd rather be sewing but the cleaning just can't wait any longer.

I have not forgotten about my giveaway for my 500+ wonderful followers.....

...hoping I can find a solution to viewing my comments on my blog soon.

I do receive comments on my email

but it would be so much easier if I could pick a winner using my numbered comments.

A Christmas Teddy Bear....

for my DGS....

...let's go back to August 2010. My DGS spent a week with us that summer....and one of the things he did was quilt some fabric. It was straight line quilting and I told him I would make a quilted teddy bear for him after all the lines were stitched. He had turned 5 on May 13 that year. It was a big job for a new sewer who was only 5 years old. I was so proud of him....and today I surprised him with his teddy bear.

I found this little sweater and it fit just perfect.

It has been a long time since I made a bear....maybe 8 years or so. I used to make mohair bears....and this week I realized just how much fun they are to make. Mohair has a bit of stretch and it is a lot easier to make a mohair bear than a quilted bear using homespun cottons. I made the paw pads out of 100% wool. Kyler is happy with his new teddy bear and I'm tickled pink at how it turned out.

If anyone can give me the formula for 36 hour days I would really appreciated it. I have so many things I would like to make but just seem to run out of time.

I have a house full of family for a few days. My 2 DS's, DDIL and 3 darling Grandones...
Noreen, we miss you.....she had to stay back in Canada to work.....and look after Miles, their dog that doesn't like the car......

.....I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with lots of hugs and laughter with family and friends.....

.....this is my 100th posting and I've over 500 followers.....

I think I have to celebrate.

I finished last month....

...made a hugh batch of nuts and bolts. I used my
Mother-in-laws recipe with a few modifications.....
and a few old Made in Canada Crown canning jars.
The dates stamped on the bottom of the jar are all in the early 50's.
Thanks Mom...luv the jars they make great containers.

I've still got a few WIP's (Works in Progress) but not needed for
Christmas gifts.

The tea towels are traced with the free pattern by Bird Brain Designs,
the small table mat is an iron on transfer and
the redwork embroidery is the centre of another pillow.
The embroidery pattern is available at 'alittlesweetness'.

....but I'm still working on a Christmas gift....
...a quilted teddy bear for my DGS, Kyler.
There is no picture yet and I will not be seeing him until sometime on Monday

My heart is still singing.....(o:

This beautiful plant and subscription to 'taste of home'

was delivered to my door this week.

The door bell rang...it doesn't ring very often at my house...99.9% of the time

it is someone trying to sell me something...so 99.9% of the time

I ignore the door bell...well this time he/she was persistent...

rang the door bell again...still I didn't answer the door...

I was still in my pj's and it was after lunch.

(luv those pj's days)

I know I should have been showered, dressed and out the door by now.

OK...I now decide to get in the shower and the phone rings...

by the time I throw on my robe and I find the phone...

they hang up...I redial the number.

He is still in my driveway and says he has a delivery.

I say...can you wait one minute please...sure...quickly I throw on my clothes

and he is standing on my front porch...a floral delivery...

I say....who would be sending me flowers....I can't image who it would be....

I sign the delivery board...yep it's my name on the board...

He says...there is a card inside...

...last week I did a favor for my friend Cori...

...she was in New York to watch her son march in the

Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

...what an honor for her son and a proud Mom to watch him...

Cori has an online quilt shop Crazyquiltgirl..... and while she was away

I was filling the orders....manning the shop so to speak....

....being the holidays and just before Christmas

it was not a good time to have to close her shop and

I asked her if she thought I would be able to do the shipping....

...she has patience to spare and the confidence in me that

I didn't think I had.

I was thrilled to be able to help her...

it was a good week.

Blocks for Jeaneane....

This past summer a tornado hit Joplin MO with a vengeance.

I read a posting at Bunny Hill Designs

where Anne Sutton asked
fellow quilters if they would help make blocks for Jeaneane.

I could not imagine if this had happened to me.

I knew I was going to help in some way
but it was a very busy time for me so...

...I sent a small package to Anne for Jeaneane...

no blocks but a charm pack of Kansas Troubles...

...so Jeaneane could start to build a new fabric stash.

This past Sunday I spent the day with my friend Christa...

...we were going to have a sew day....something we haven't done in a long time.

she brought lots she could have worked on,

but instead we made blocks and more blocks

...blocks for Jeaneane.

We shopped in the morning,

came home for lunch

and sewed on blocks all afternoon,

had dinner and Christa left about 8 o’clock

....she said she had a ‘great day’ when she left.

I had a great day too. She is a great friend.

This is what we made on Sunday.

Monday night Christa came over again, I ordered pizza and
we made 4 more blocks and made plans to make more...

A few months ago.....Vicki at the Pickledish Patch

was looking for some 'Swell' by Urban Chicks

and in my stash I found some yardage.

I also had some 'Sweet' by Urban Chicks

and they work well together.

Vicki and I did a swap and I just luv my goodies.

Don't you just luv 'Monday is Washing Day'....

the cutest clothes pin bag I've every seen

....for sure I'll be making a few of these....

and the 'Quilters Cottage' pattern....luv it

it has a wash line too!

I luv to hang my clothes outside on a washline

but am sad to say the subdivision I live in

does not allow them......it infuriates me when I pay the property taxes

and the home owners association tells me

what I can and can't do on my property.

'just found out we have to get permission from them to put a new roof on our house'

I've always been a quiet one but this 'quiet little old' one

just might have to make an appearance

at the monthly meetings....what do you think??????

A bad start to the day and a thank you.....edited

...last week before we changed our clock back and gained that hour
that I never seem to get....
DH was driving into work...and it's blacker than the ace of spades
the car is not sounding like it should...and he suspects a flat tire!!
oops! (not his words I'm sure)...yes....it is...
he pulls into a parking lot with flood lights and he changes the tire
....in suit and tie and his AAA card in his wallet...
he arrives at work....leaving the hub cap in the parking lot.
On his way home....blacker than the ace of spades again
he stops at the lighted parking lot.....NO hub cap to be found....
The next day I take his car into Belle Tire....
(they had installed the tires exactly 2 years ago)
I waited for nearly 2 hours.....thank goodness I took my stitching.
...finally they call my name.......and this is what they took out of his tire
it is 5" long

the good news
the tire was under warranty so NO CHARGE!!

Her Lost Soldier Boy's Quilt Project.....

she is working on a very special project...

(if you haven't read her story click on her name)

6....8.5 inch blocks

.....and a 12.5 inch block

and 7 pillowcases....1 more than the picture shows
...one for the soldier that fought beside Chris.

It has been over 2 months since John'aLee's family suffered the tragedy

that changed their lives forever.

As life goes on...and time passes
they will cherish their memories of Chris forever

and some day their hearts will sing again!

A Ghastlie project....

......I forgot to include in my 'parade of projects'.

The antique silk spool came from Bird Brain Designs.

(just noticed they are out of stock, hopefully they will get them back in soon)

It makes a perfect holder for my embroidery scissors....

I wrapped batting around the spool

then covered it with a scrap of Ghastlie fabric to make a pin cushion....

luv.....it.....it sits on the couch beside me...no more

hunting for my scissors!!

I was thrilled, over the top excited when Mme Samm Ghastlie asked me to be part of the

1st Ghastlie Blog Hop.

My DDIL introduced me to Heather Ross fabrics a few years ago when

Mendocino and Lightning Bugs was readily available at the quilt stores.

This is some of my Lightning Bug collection...........

For Christmas that year I had bought 3 Lightning Bugs quilt kits from my LQS.

I gave DDIL one.....as she wanted to get back into quilting and what a perfect gift it was.

She luved it and finished her's long before I finished mine.....

in fact mine still needs the binding....

and it is not like me to leave a quilt unfinished when only the binding is left to do......

...after all the binding is my favorite part of quilt making.

This is mine without the binding....

Last summer my granddaughter was getting a new bedroom.....

The twin beds were painted turquoise

and she picked Heather Ross' Mendocino fabrics for her quilts.

I finally got them quilted....no not by me....

and I bound one in the car on our way to Canada and

finished the second one before we had to head back home.

...I luv the stitching.....the mermaids are perfect.

and I made a pair of pillow cases too...

I'm late as usual but I promised a Halloween giveaway...
so a Halloween giveaway it is!!!

Shoe shopping!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of you already know I am from Canada
and have been living in the USA since June 2002.

We have lots of family and friends come to Michigan every year to visit
.....to shop and quilt....

and of course go to the NASCAR races in June.

For the past 5 or 6 years

my Dsister, Dnieces and a Dfriend would come for 3 or 4 days of
lots of quilting amd some shopping........ always in August.

This year our Dfriend could not come.....
We missed her )o:.....

...we managed to do a lot of sewing and some shopping....
mostly shoe shopping
...just look what they bought...12 pairs of shoes...

...2 pair are mine...the cute black flip flops, top row, second from the right, are mine....

I just luv the sparklies......yes luv those sparklies.....

and on the bottom row, the third pair from the left are in my closet......

...the other 12 pairs are back in Canada.

There is nothing like shoe shopping in the USA!!!...(o:

I know all of you luv to buy fabric, that is a given..... but are you a 'shoe' person......
a 'purse' or something 'else' person?

I'm a shoe 'person'.

A stitchery....

....I'm working on.
It is a Bird Brain Design pattern
called 'Here Comes Santa'.

block one.....is finished

and block two is finished

I'm using DMC Perle cotton #8.....it is working out better than I thought

and am using the back stitch.

I still prefer the outline stitch but I am getting faster with the backstitch

and I must say I do like the finished blocks!!

Projects I'm working on.....

......to keep me out of trouble.

The ladies in the Canton Township Quilters group helped me out.

It is a small group of quilters that meet Wednesday evenings
....and for every completed pillow case they gave me...

I challenged myself to make another one. They gave me 10 pillowcases so I made 10.

Tomorrow I will be sending 20 pillow cases to Carol

and she will deliver them to her friend Jami.

I'm also working on a Lynette Anderson quilt
....it's her Wonky Santa quilt
...the Santas are all fused and ready for applique...
I'm finding this to be a bit time consuming with the fussy stitching,
but I know it will be worth all the hours I put into making the quilt.
It will be awesome when it is finished.

stitching around the mustache is the worst!!

and making the little yoyo for the Santa hat is another UGH task!!
I'm not sure which of the buttons I like best....
I kinda like the button with only the X stitched.....
better than the one with the button hole stitch
around the outside of the wool button.
I could make a bigger X.
What do you think, what button would you choose?????

My wife LOVES snowmen so that "trim the Tree" pattern would be a big hit with her!

I used to follow NASCAR religiously... Then they introduced restrictor plates and I stopped watching. I went to Daryl Waltrip's house every Tuesday for 3 years for a bible study. During the racing season he would make it to about half of the studies, but in the off-season he was there almost every week. Darryl is on neat guy, then again, most of them were back in the day, now it's just too commercial.

And please thank Charles for me. I enjoy my freedom every day and those out there on the front lines of wars and battles make that possible and I like to say Thanks to every single one of them I meet.

......than a computer crash!!!

.......Friday was a very sad day

it is still down and as soon as I can get all the names in the basket

I'm not liking my DH's laptop.....not one little bit

...it is like working on a computer for the first time.....

I had my sister and 2 nieces visiting from Monday to Thursday noonish

and my son, DIL and 3 grandchildren and the dog arrived Friday.

On Saturday we went to the Children's museum in Ann Arbor

Sunday they drove to Chicago, spend the night and will be back later today.....

we dog sat and he didn't whine at all......good dog!!

They will be back later today

and will likely head back to Canada sometime on Wednesday......

.....and then the B&B will be closed until I get rested......lol.......DH too!!

NASCAR weekend...........and a giveaway

......just been thinking about my busy summer........
One major event we have every June is a NASCAR weekend.
This year

on Thurs June 16 to Sunday June 19 we had 10 NASCAR fans for the weekend.

We have been sharing this weekend with family and friends for 6 years now
in past years

......we have had as many as 13 and as few as 8 fans arrive for the weekend ....

...this year 6 fans arrived on Thursday evening....

and 4 more fans on Friday evening....
add DH and me and we have a houseful!!!!

Let the fun begin.....

Saturday and Sunday the guys are at the race track

and every year.... except this year..... there were ladies that have gone to check out

....what happens at the track stays at the track....

one year they came back from the track soaked to the skin....

NOT happy campers....

it was hot, humid, and stormy.

This was Sunday June 19, 2011...what a happy bunch!!!
....the weather was good!!

raring to get on the road are...

Al, Roger, nephew Jon, Don aka Tids, my DH Bruce, DBIL Ross, and nephew Josh

here are the girls sending them off at 8:10 in the morning........

and now we ladies can get on with our day

shopping.......sewing......more shopping......more sewing
it is a fun weekend with
lots of food......way too much most of the time and
lots of laughs....and most years if the weekend is on Father's Day
we have a fireworks display
thanks to Canton Township Liberty Fest celebrations....
we have an awesome view from the front of the house.....
up to 15 lawn chairs line the length of the driveway as we watch the sky!!
Josh had sooooo much fun on Saturday he missed the fireworks.....
he was resting up for more fun on Sunday....
...remember what happens at the track stays at the track...
Sharon and I are the only ones that have not experienced the track thrill!!!
That's OK with me.....I'd rather be quilting!!

Looking forward to June 2012 already,
Charles will be back from active duty later this month
and will be able to join us next year!!!

another first

....it was 2 months ago I experienced my first Quilt Market....

in two words I'd describe it as overwhelming and exhausting...
and looking forward to the next one!!!!

I met many amazing fabric and pattern designers, to name a few

Edyta Sitar.....the talented fabric and pattern designer of 'Laundry Basket Quilts'

She is a real sweetheart and soooooo funny.

I would love to take one of her classes.......her work is truly amazing.
If you love batiks you will love her quilts.....they are stunning!!

Barb and Mary.....of Me and My Sister.....these two sisters are hilarious....

....for me the highlight of going to Quilt Market

was meeting Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs.

She is the nicest, most genuine, caring person you could every meet....

and Anne B you are a genuine gem too!!!

Prior to Spring Market I had the opportunity to help stitch quilts

that were hanging in the Bunny Hill Designs booth.....

.....'All Dressed Up' is pictured in 2 color ways....a pink version and a gray one
using Anne's new line of fabric 'Puttin on the Ritz' and it is gorgeous.
It will be in your LQS in October and available in pink, blue and gray.

I stitched the 12 embroidered blocks...6 blocks for each quilt...
and pieced the pink quilt..... minus the borders.
Mama Spark pieced the gray quilt.....also minus the borders.

Anne wasn't quite sure what fabrics she wanted to use for the borders.

In yesterdays post I showed 2 of the embroidered blocks
....here are the other four blocks.....

Any little girl would love this quilt!!

Another quilt I worked on with Mama Spark was called 'Happy Go Lucky'
and it too was made using Anne's 'Puttin on the Ritz' fabric.
It was hanging the Moda booth.
Oh my goodness....pinch me again!!

Mama Spark pieced the pinwheel rows and
I stitched the applique block, attached the pinwheel rows
and added the borders.

This is another sweet pattern and would be adorable in the blue.
